Non-judgment…It’s a vibe!
I’ve been thinking about how much we judge in our day to day lives. We judge ourselves, others, things, places, and processes. Sometimes, these judgments are positive and sometimes they are negative. Sometimes, because we have decided that something is positive, we perceive differences as being negative. What if, not everything is positive or negative? What if we can find appreciation somewhere in the middle?
Judgments cloud our ability to appreciate the beauty within and around us. We are wonderfully unique and flawed beings who have created a world of wonder and flaws! When we embrace all aspects of ourselves, others, and the world around us, we learn to appreciate what is and expand our ability to love beyond perfection.
How does one begin to practice non-judgment? Like creating most new habits, it helps to start small. Begin by noticing how you judge yourself. What is that little voice in your head saying about your appearance, your abilities, your talents? Can you offer yourself some grace in those moments and find appreciation instead of criticism? Give it a try! The next time that little voice makes a critical judgment, take a pause to find understanding and appreciate yourself for doing so. This practice can transform your life! It may take some time and effort on your part to change your perspective from judgment to appreciation. Practice makes perfect, and lucky for us, we have an infinite amount of possibilities to practice, since that little voice rarely takes a moment off.
As your thoughts shift from judgment, to understanding, to appreciation, you begin to love yourself despite your flaws, and your perception of the world around you will also shift. You’ll become more understanding and compassionate to others despite their flaws, too. You’ll see a world that makes you smile, which is an effortless way to shine your light and spread love!
